WIPERS!
Are you as conscientious about your windshield wipers as you are about your car's engine? Car safety is a critical concern for everyone.
Worn wiper blades are dangerous. Because 90% of your driving decisions are based on a clear, unobstructed view of the road, it's a critical safety concern that your car's wipers provide you with the cleanest windshield possible.
Weather plays a critical role in your windshield wiper blades' deterioration. Freezing temperatures make the rubber in your wiper blades hard and brittle, which increases their tendency to crack or tear. Hot weather warps the rubber and prevents the blade from wiping your windshield cleanly.
Rubber also deteriorates over time. As blades age, they lose their flexibility and are less able to wipe cleanly. They may develop a permanent set or curvature, which prevents full contact with your windshield.
Replace wiper blades every 6 months or 12,000 km with a good quality set of blades for optimum wiper blade performance and driving visibility.

DASHBOARD LIGHTS!
Warning signals on your dashboard are your car’s way of telling you something is wrong, so don’t ignore them – you could run yourself into expensive damage.

ENGINE OIL!
Changing the engine oil regularly according to the manufacturer's recommendations is one of the best ways to keep your vehicle in top operating condition. Oil lubricates the moving parts of the engine, preventing metal-to-metal contact, minimizing friction and carrying away excess heat – all of which promote better fuel efficiency and reduced emissions. Motor oil also removes dirt, metal shavings and other impurities from the engine and captures them in the oil filter. You can pay a severe penalty for neglecting engine oil, possibly even needing to replace the engine itself.

Check your belts!
At the front of your engine there will be a series of rubber drive belts that loop around various pulleys, driving everything from the alternator to the a/c compressor. Rubber wears out, more so in extreme conditions like those found in an operating engine bay. Get your timing belt and accessory drive belt checked every 40,000 kms, preferably replacing it every 80,000 kms.
Tip!
TIRES!
You can improve your gas mileage by up to 3.3 percent by keeping your tires inflated to the proper pressure. Under-inflated tires can lower gas mileage by 0.3 percent for every 1 psi drop in pressure of all four tires. Properly inflated tires are safer and last longer.
An under inflated tire can't maintain its shape and becomes flatter than intended while in contact with the road. If a vehicle's tires are under inflated by only 6 psi it could weaken the tire's internal structure and eventually lead to tire failure.
Not sure if your psi is correct? Stop in and have John or Abe test your psi and answer any tire questions you may have!
